A website can be great tool for us to gather knowledge and present it in the form they way we interpret it. I chose to read this website because it matched the criteria of my research, was simple, understandable and was easy to locate what I was looking for. One of the paragraph which will be part of my essay is;
Geographical location plays a part in access to trading and marketing. Almost all of the empires have been based upon trade routes such as the Mongol Empire which was based on the Silk road from China to the west. Many of the cultures suffer due to them being landlocked, situated in high mountain ranges and lack of river, long coastlines and good natural harbors, since these obstacles prevent them from blending into different cultures and adapting new techniques. If cultures don’t blend and interact, they prevent themselves from sharing new ideas and techniques and cultures just continue with their isolated development. They might be using new techniques, but those new techniques might be old to other cultures, therefore if they don’t blend they are not advancing at a rate which they are supposed to be at.
History is a really important subject for us, showing us where we come from, how we orignated and what our past is all about. The three most important skills which I have is I can make inferences and draw conclusions easily from what I read. I think its important to make connections to today’s world, how we are similar and different in many ways; therefore I think I am good at doing that and can make some connections to today’s world. I also think reading maps is another skill which I think is really important is looking at maps and making connections how where each location of a place can help us understand its culture and economical structure. I think I have the skill, from which I can tell how each geographical location can help us understand things about each culture. I think one thing I need to make sure I do is that I really read things carefully, understanding what its trying to communicate and not make conclusion too fast on what I read.
If this time control device was with me, I would definitely chose the “pause” button, change things in the present and continue moving on with the future. I wouldn’t chose the button where I could change the past and change the future but not live the present. If I did that, I would never be able to enjoy the present and would just keep making changes for the past and the future. I would pause, and correct all the mistakes happening in the present and live the life after pausing and correcting everything wrong happening in the present. The effects of my decision would be that people wouldn’t work hard since they know that whatever they do will be corrected therefore they might not work to their full potential. In order to make sure people are working, I would tell them what’s going wrong, and they will have to change it in order to make it right. I will change if their is any sort of corruption, economy problems or any social or political problem in order to make my empire a better place to live in.
An Iceberg is a large piece of fresh water ice which breaks off from a glacier. So far, I just heard of Iceberg being an obstacle to people travelling in seas, but now I think an Iceberg is a very efficient way to represent the ancient cultures. An Iceberg, when seen from a distance just looks like a big piece of ice floating in water, but when you look at it from underwater there is much more to it. Its wider down and its much bigger unlike when we see it from a far distance. Ancient cultures are just like an Iceberg, they look very simple and easy to understand, a very small part contributing to the world history, but when they are explored and investigated there are many impressive facts we learn which are very deep, answering some mysterious and unanswered questions like who started them? How did they settle, where did they settle and most of all who was before them. These questions are filled with interesting facts which make connections to today’s world and are some of them are still yet to be explored.
As soon as I entered the Mayan territory, there was a puff of fear in the air, a feeling that it was a mistake to enter into their territory and gathering all the information which I will need, in order to defeat them and conquer. As soon, as I entered I was confused which place to go to, I asked a man and he said that there are many city-states were thousands of people live and one of them was a main spectacular city, Tikal. I decided to go to the main city, in order to see what they do there. When I reached there I was in awe, there were temples and pyramid and one of the pyramids stretched to 212 feet, they had a ball court, stone sided playing fields in which played games, they said were for some religious and political significance. My legs started to tremble, but I kept gathering more information. They had city-states which were linked through alliances and trade. They exchanged products such as salt flint feathers shells and honey. They also traded craft goods like cotton textiles and jade ornaments. Due to them being on the Gulf coast, they had surplus amount of fish which they traded, boosting up their economy status. They were building new sophisticated ways of agriculture, unlike what I thought, that they still do slash and burn agriculture. They had social classes, they king sat on the top was the holy figure with absolute power, and followed the inherited succession method.. When I went to the temple, thinking maybe I can find a key way for our conquering I found out that Gods were associated with colors, and believed that each day was associated with one god. I found that they give offerings of food, flowers and incense but also found that they do human sacrificing of enemies, a thought which shook me from my head to toe. Halfheartedly I continued my journey, I found were advancing in math, astronomy, calendar. They even calculated to solar years and included the concept of zero. They used shell symbol for zero, dots for the numbers and the bar for five. I was saw different symbols on walls and those were their writing, which consisted for 800 hieroglyphics symbols and some stood for whole words. They used their writing system to record events, carving them into a recording them into bar paper book known as a codex. I tried to gather information about their events, but unfamiliar with the language made it not possible. I think we need change in plans in order to defeat this strong and immense empire.

When walking towards a new adventure, a new city, Mount Alban, As soon as I reached there I recalled which I saw on my way. As soon as I was going through the fields, I saw a similar pattern, where there was the concept of step farming happening in Monte Alban. I noticed that just like Rome had palaces which were made out of stone, so did Monte Alban which were huge. As soon as I reached there I decided to pray and when I found a temple, in fact I found huge temples in Monte Alban just like in Rome. When I reached I was really tired because of walking and couldn’t catch my breath, and then realized that both these places were steep and were hilly areas. At Last when I was just walking around In Monte Alban, I noticed that this city is also really advanced and developed just like Rome. These two places were very similar in many ways.
